Transit Wins Major Public Relations Award

The State Highway 1 Northern Motorway Extension Project has won a major public relations award in June this year.

The Northern Gateway Alliance, which is delivering the project for Transit, is a joint winner of the award, nominated by the New Zealand Public Relations Institute (PRINZ).

The PRINZ Awards are designed to celebrate the country's best public relations campaigns, and are open to all members of the Institute.

The Northern Gateway Alliance, represented by communications manager Kate Woodruffe, has won the "sustained public relations programme" award. The other winner in this category was the Glassons Breast Cancer Research Trust T-shirt Campaign.

Kate Woodruffe says that as the first major "greenfields" project under the Land Transport Management Act, the Northern Motorway Extension Project has required a more comprehensive approach to public relations than that undertaken on the average construction project.

"Delivering the project in a sustainable manner includes dealing with social issues through a comprehensive communications and community relations programme, and this formed the basis of our entry," says Ms Woodruffe.
