Organisation for Economic Co-operation and Development (OECD)

Transit is expanding its involvement with OECD working groups particularly in areas of sustainability and urban environment.

Created as an economic counterpart to NATO, the OECD took over from the OEEC in 1961 and, since then, its mission has been to help governments achieve sustainable economic growth and employmnt and rising standards of living in member countries while maintaining financial stability, so contributing to the development of the world economy.

In recent years, the OECD has moved beyond a focus on its 30 member countries to offer its analytical expertise and accumulated experience to more than 70 developing and emerging market economies.

Representatives of the 30 member countries meet in specialised committees to advance ideas and review progress in specific policy area. There are about 200 committees, working groups and expect groups in all. Transit has representation on a small number of these groups to assist with development practice and recommendations.
