Overview

About the High Speed Pavement condition surveys.

High Speed Pavement Condition surveys and SCRIM (skid resistance) surveys are undertaken annually on the entire State Highway network.

The surveys are undertaken using the SCRIM+ survey vehicle (pictured) operated by WDM Ltd.

Data collected as part of the survey includes:

  • Skid resistance (SCRIM) in both wheelpaths
  • Texture (mean profile depth) measured in both wheelpaths and mid lane
  • Roughness
  • Rutting
  • Geometry (gradient, crossfall and curvature)
  • GPS road centreline coordinates
  • Network Video

Results of this survey provide Transit with road condition information that is critical to ensuring the safety of the motoring public. Transit also utilises the outputs for highway performance monitoring, treatment site selection, trend analysis and deterioration modelling. Reliability, timeliness and accuracy of the data is critical to ensure cost effective treatments are applied at the right time.

Surveys are undertaken between October and March each year.
