New signals to make turning safer into Huntly's Tregoweth Lane

Transit New Zealand is about to make it easier and safer to turn into Huntly's Tregoweth Lane from State Highway 1.

The construction of dedicated turning bays for both north and southbound traffic is well advanced and the installation of new traffic signals should begin by the end of this week.

Tregoweth Lane, located just south of Huntly, is the main access road to Huntly Quarries and the Hillside Hotel and Nature Resort, and has a level crossing close to the intersection with SH1.

Transit acting network operations manager, Alan Burkett says, "The new turning bays and traffic signals will make it safer for vehicles entering and exiting Tregoweth Lane. The level crossing doesn't provide much queuing room for traffic needing to wait for trains at the SH1 end of Tregoweth Lane, and the turning bays will provide vehicles with a safe place to wait."

Weather permitting, Transit aims to start installing the traffic signals this week and have them operational in approximately three weeks when the road surfacing is completed. Once operational, the traffic signals will be triggered by vehicles waiting to turn into Tregoweth Lane from the turning bays.

Mr Burkett asks motorists to be patient while these works are underway and to watch out for road signs. Speed through the construction site may be restricted at times, and some stop/go traffic control will be used.
