Northbound road users on SH2 will wake up to a temporary new diversion at Korokoro tomorrow morning (8 May) as part of the SH2 Dowse to Petone Upgrade Project.
This shift onto a new section of road, established specifically for the project, allows the construction team to continue work on the state highway while keeping road users moving.
Transit Regional Manager Graham Taylor says the diversion is the first of several temporary changes at the Korokoro intersection relating to the realignment of SH2 and the construction of a new road bridge across SH2 to Hutt Road.
The construction team will work on building retaining walls and supports for the new road bridge before lowering the existing state highway lanes by up to six metres later this year.
Mr Taylor says a temporary speed restriction of 30km/h will be in place at Korokoro on Wednesday night while work is completed and traffic signal poles relocated. This will ensure the changeover is as smooth as possible for Thursday morning commuters.
"This work has been planned so it doesn’t have a major impact on traffic, but road users are asked to please take care when travelling through the roadwork area," he says.
Transit thanks the public for their patience while we improve their journey.
