Changes designed to make Percy Scenic Reserve safer to access and more available to the community can get underway now the old custodian's cottage on the site has been moved.
Excellent progress on the SH2 Dowse to Petone Upgrade (D2P) project allowed the cottage to be relocated last week from its existing site to the reserve's new carpark entrance just off Dowse Drive.
The new entrance location will allow Hutt City Council to develop the visitor arrival area and the existing operational buildings, at the northern end of the Scenic Reserve.
The cottage, on it's new site, will also be available for community and education purposes relating to the reserve.
NZTA advise they can now also complete the Dowse Interchange off ramp, lower the current hump in the SH2 lanes over the original Percy culvert and finish off work in the carpark.
The new carpark is a vast improvement from the original. With safer and easier access from both directions of SH2 it provides parking for up to 40 cars and also has allocated areas for larger buses and tour couches.
