Long-term road shoulder closures needed for Transit New Zealand’s Harbour Link Project begin over the next few weeks.
The road shoulders will be closed along the causeway next to Tauranga Bridge Marina and on Takitimu Dr between the existing road and the cliff face as construction work starts in these areas. Concrete barriers and cones will be used to show where the work site is. The Takitimu Dr shoulder will be closed for four to five months, and the causeway shoulder will be closed for about a year.
The work on Takitimu Dr is needed for the Chapel St westbound on-ramp, with reshaping of the site and temporary diversion of the public footpath. When complete the on-ramp will take traffic from Chapel St onto Takitimu Dr.
A short-term road shoulder closure is also on Dive Cr while topsoil is being stockpiled on the grassed area opposite the Harbour Link Project Office. The topsoil is being removed from Takitimu Dr and the causeway to prepare for road construction. Transit project manager Kevin Reid said motorists should take care in the area as trucks cart the topsoil to Dive Cr.
