Lane Closure for Takitimu Drive

Tauranga Office

June 5, 2008

Traffic along Takitimu Drive will merge into a single lane next week as part of Transit New Zealand's Harbour Link Stage 2 Project.

Traffic coming from the Marsh St / Chapel St intersection heading west along Takitimu Drive will merge from two lanes to a single lane about 100 metres from the intersection. The lane closure will continue to the first footbridge, and a 50km/h temporary speed limit will be in place.

"The lane closure is needed to complete the works for the Chapel St westbound on-ramp, and will be followed by further major traffic shifts starting in July along Takitimu Drive for works on the Chapel St viaduct approaches" Transit's project manager Kevin Reid said.

Pedestrians are still able to use the new Chapel St westbound off-ramp for walking, running and cycling. Over in the Waikareao Estuary, the Chapel St eastbound off-ramp is taking shape and one of the crossheads which will support the viaduct beams has been installed.
