Access Restrictions at Tauranga Bridge Marina

Tauranga Office

12 September, 2008

Tauranga traffic coming out of the Marina will need to turn left and head towards the Mount, making a u‑turn at the traffic signals at either Tasman Quay or Totara St.

Southbound traffic coming from the Mount wanting to turn right into the Marina will need to continue across the Harbour Bridge, turn at the Dive Cr roundabout, travel back across the bridge and turn left into the Marina.

NZ Transport Agency’s Harbour Link project manager Kevin Reid said that the access restrictions have been worked through with Marina management, and will be in place until the completion of the project in Autumn 2010.  “I would like to thank the public in advance for their patience while construction work is being carried out.”

Other works along the causeway next week include installation of temporary concrete barriers and screens next to the old toll plaza site.  A bentonite yard – which produces drilling mud for piling - is being established in this area as planning gets underway for piling for the new Aerodrome Bridge.

This new bridge will be identical to the existing bridge, although slightly wider to accommodate a cycle way/footpath.  Like the new Harbour Bridge, a temporary bridge or staging will be built so that cranes and rigs can reach each of the pile locations.

A safe navigation channel will be maintained at all times under the bridge, however Whareroa boat ramp users should take care when passing under the bridge.
