Harbour Link Reaches First Milestone of 2009

13 January 2009

TAfter a construction break over the holiday period, work on the NZ Transport Agency’s Harbour Link Project has recommenced.

This week will see the project achieve its first milestone of 2009 with the opening of the Chapel St eastbound off ramp.  The off ramp is the first section of bridge to be opened to traffic.

NZ Transport Agency project manager, Kevin Reid expects the off ramp to be chip sealed on Wednesday and the road opened to traffic on Thursday, weather permitting.

Traffic travelling along Takitimu Dr towards Otumoetai will be directed onto the new off ramp with a left-turn only available.  Traffic headed towards Sulphur Point and Mount Maunganui will remain on the current two‑way system until September 2009.

Mr Reid says that due to reduced lane widths in this area, cyclists should use Cameron Rd rather than travel through the construction site along Takitimu Dr.
