Changes to Tauranga’s Dive Crescent Roundabout

21 May 2009

Changes to the Dive Crescent roundabout and the adjacent section of Mirrielees Rd will be made next week as part of the NZ Transport Agency’s Harbour Link project.

The realignment of the roundabout will enable the new Harbour Bridge approaches to be constructed and the beams to be placed on the Chapel St viaduct over Mirrielees Rd.  The realigned roundabout will be an oval shape, and the Mirrielees Rd approach will be shifted to its new position under the adjacent viaduct span.

The lane layout will generally remain the same, however trucks exiting from Marsh St should use the left-lane only when approaching the roundabout.

NZ Transport Agency Project Manager Kevin Reid said that until now the project had mostly been constructed with minimal impact on traffic, but the project has now moved into a more complex stage and some disruption will occur.

“The work from now through to the end of the project involves constructing connections between new and existing roads, as well as significant maintenance work on existing road surfaces and structures.  Wherever possible we will try to minimise the effect on the travelling public, however some delays at this point in the project will be unavoidable,” he said.
