Transit New Zealand has awarded the last of five contracts for Stage 1 of the investigation and preliminary design phase for the Transmission Gully project.
Transit Wellington Regional Manager Graham Taylor said the scheme assessment contract has been awarded for $769,627 to a consortia led by Opus International Consultants. The other partners in the consortia are GHD, Holmes Consulting Group and Boffa Miskell.
The investigation and preliminary design phase of the Transmission Gully project is being undertaken by Transit on behalf of the Government.
Mr Taylor said the consortia won the contract against stiff competition from two other experienced consultants.
“The partners in the consortia provide the best mix of technical and management skills of all the tenders for this project. They also have wide and considerable experience in the preparation and successful delivery of scheme assessments,” he said.
The scheme assessment work for the project involves engineering investigations, development and assessment of project options and alternatives, and planning investigations.
The four previously awarded contracts for Stage 1 have been for preliminary geotechnical assessment, cost risk and value engineering assessment, traffic modelling, and road safety audit.

All five contracts for Stage 1 of the investigation and preliminary design phase for the Transmission Gully project have now been awarded.
MWH New Zealand is working on the road safety audit and this work will continue throughout the duration of the project.
Sinclair Knight Merz (SKM) is undertaking traffic modelling.
Opus International Consultants is undertaking preliminary geotechnical assessment work.
A second team from Opus International Consultants is undertaking the cost risk and value engineering assessment.
The letting of the Scheme Assessment Contract now completes the awarding of all contracts for Stage 1 of the investigation and preliminary design phase for the Transmission Gully project.
The Transmission Gully project calls for much detailed and thorough work to be carried out to ensure a robust process is undertaken to establish cost and design options for the project.
The timeframes for the Transmission Gully project are consistent with those for similar overseas road projects such as Melbourne's A$3.8 billion EastLink 45-km project.
