Consultation Update

Consultation round two starts 13 July 2007

Round two of the consultation process for Transit New Zealand's Woodend Transportation Study continues to examine the need and the potential for a bypass of Woodend. This round is to gain public and stakeholder's feedback specific to the issues and opportunities associated with the following bypass options:

• A Long Eastern bypass
• A Short Eastern bypass
• Widening of the existing state highway
• An Interim Heavy Vehicle bypass.

The document, 'Accompanying Report for Public Consultation Round Two' (see below), has been produced to inform community and other stakeholders of the consultation process.

Feedback for round two of the consultation is due to close on 13 August 2007.

Public open days

Public open days will be held at the Woodend Fire Station on:

• Tuesday 24 July from 3pm until 8pm
• Saturday 28 July from 12pm until 4pm

Representatives from Transit will be there to listen to people's views and assist with any questions.

Background

Transit's Woodend Transportation Study commenced in March 2006, with the aim of identifying a need for a bypass and to ascertain any realistic future bypass options.

Transit issued the Woodend Transportation Issues Position Paper in June 2006 and commenced with Round One of a potential three round consultation process.

Round one of the consultation showed that 88 percent of the 265 respondents would prefer a bypass rather than four lanes through town. Of those who stated a preference in east or west of Woodend, more than two thirds preferred locating any future bypass to the east of Woodend.

The consultation summary report (see below) titled “Summary of Public Feedback on Woodend Transportation Issues” (November 2006) describes the methodology and reports in detail on the feedback received.
