| Purpose: | The Northwestern Motorway (SH16) is a key part of the Western Ring Route - one of seven Roads of National Significance that the Government is prioritising to reduce congestion, improve safety and support economic growth. A range of improvements is planned for SH16 between St Lukes and Westgate that will support this growth as well as catering to the changes in traffic flow expected once the Western Ring Route is completed. The improvements are focused on improving safety, supporting economic growth and upgrading provision for walking, cycling and public transport. |

| Other: | The proposed improvements are not the first time SH16 has been upgraded to reflect growing demand. In the 1990s, lanes were added and the Rosebank and Patiki Interchanges constructed to cope with the growing Waitakere population. |
