SH26/27 Intersection Improvement

Tatuanui, 8kms east of Morrinsville
Purpose: To improve safety at the intersection of SH26 and SH27 by replacing the existing intersection with a roundabout.
EstimatedCost: $4M*
Start Date: Design commenced late 2007
Location: Tatuanui, 8kms east of Morrinsville
Engineering Features: Various minor safety improvements have been carried out at this intersection over the last decade. The layout needs to be altered to a roundabout to further improve safety. Both highways carry high (18%) volumes of heavy vehicles and traffic flows increase significantly during peak holiday periods.

Interesting Facts: The Notice of Requirement for designation was lodged with Matamata Piako District Council in July 2008.The hearing was held November 5 2008, and the conditions have been accepted.
