| Purpose: | To improve safety at the intersection of SH26 and SH27 by replacing the existing intersection with a roundabout. |

| Engineering Features: | Various minor safety improvements have been carried out at this intersection over the last decade. The layout needs to be altered to a roundabout to further improve safety. Both highways carry high (18%) volumes of heavy vehicles and traffic flows increase significantly during peak holiday periods.

| Interesting Facts: | The Notice of Requirement for designation was lodged with Matamata Piako District Council in July 2008.The hearing was held November 5 2008, and the conditions have been accepted.
