| Purpose: | The project involves a coordinated system of traffic light phasing at the Welcome Bay and Maungatapu roundabouts, along with the addition of new lanes and the realignment of the road layout and construction of traffic islands. Signalising the roundabouts has improved congestion and traffic flows, and reduced morning and afternoon peak travel times. |
|---|---|
| Start Date: | August 2008 |
| End Date: | Construction was substantially completed in December 2008 |
| Location: | Tauranga City |
| Interesting Facts: | These are the first permanently signalised roundabouts in New Zealand. The traffic signals will be monitored for six months, from January 2009 to June 2009, and timings may be altered slightly to help enhance the traffic flow. |
