Project Details

Peka Peka Southbound Passing Lane

SH1
Four kilometres north of Waikanae covering a distance of about 2km.
Purpose: To provide another passing opportunity for road users travelling south on the region's transport backbone.

Start Date: January 2009
End Date: Mid 2009
Location: Four kilometres north of Waikanae covering a distance of about 2km.
Environment Features: Because the work encroaches on former swamp land on one side of the carriageway, a settling period will be required for the earthworks. Work will therefore be stopped temporarily during winter this year (2009) to allow settlement to occur.

Interesting Facts: This passing lane will be the last in a series of passing lanes constructed between Levin and Paraparaumu and will complete the passing lane strategy for this area. The project is in accordance with the Transport Agency's Passing Lane Policy, which is to provide passing opportunities every 5km on routes with traffic volumes in excess of 4000 vehicles per day.

Other: Contractor for the work is Fulton Hogan.
