| Environment Features:
| Mangorewa Gorge has significant historical and cultural importance. The gorge has World War II fortifications contained within it and is rich in Maori history and folklore. The project site was also the original water stop for the Rotorua/Tauranga stage coach. This area is challenging to work in, with no cell phone coverage, power or other amenities available. Road conditions are icy in winter due to limited sunlight reaching the bottom of the gorge.

| Interesting Facts:
| This project is part of the Tauranga Direct/Twin City transportation package and is being managed on NZTA's behalf by Rotorua District Council. Weekly emails updates advising of project progress and closure times are available from gorge@rdc.govt.nz
