Mt Roskill extension

SH20
From SH20 intersection with Queenstown Rd in Mt Roskill to Richardson Rd

Purpose: This project has several purposes:
  • create a further key link in the Western Ring Route
  • provide a high standard, strategic extension of SH20 from its current end at Queenstown Rd through Mt Roskill to New Windsor
  • include public transport alternatives by creating buslanes and provision for a future rail line adjacent to the motorway
  • separate through traffic from Mt Roskill, providing a safe and efficient high-speed motorway route and local road network.
EstimatedCost: $169 m
Start Date: July 2005
End Date: mid 2009
Location: From SH20 intersection with Queenstown Rd in Mt Roskill to Richardson Rd

Engineering Features: The extension will have interchanges at Hillsborough Rd and Dominion Rd. These interchanges will allow for vehicle movement to and from the motorway in both directions, as well as motorway overbridges for local roads.

The extension will end at a roundabout and a local road will provide a new link between Maioro St and Sandringham Rd via a roundabout. Maioro Street will be widened to provide a four lane carriageway to operate on a clearways basis during peak hours.

Dedicated pedestrian and cycleway bridges will be created at Keith Hay Park and Ernie Pinches St. A dedicated cycleway being developed in conjunction with the Auckland City Council will run parallel to the motorway.
