Huntly Bypass Map
Summary: The Huntly Bypass extends from south of Ohinewai to Taupiri. The route has been identified and designated by NZTA in the Waikato District Plan for future highway development.
Length: 15km.
Cost: Approximately $450M to $550M for four lanes.
Status: Route identified and designated. Design work is due to start in late 2009.
Route details:
- The preferred route passes east of Huntly, crosses the Taupiri Range, and then passes east of Taupiri to connect with the Ngaruawahia Bypass.
- The project will require substantial earthworks, and steep grades to cross the Taupiri Ranges (with a very deep cut at the summit).
- Avoids direct impacts on Waikato River.
- Will not impact on Taupiri Mountain or cemetery.
