Tamahere to Cambridge Four-Laning Map
Summary: This section of the Waikato Expressway was originally designated as part of the Hamilton Bypass, but is now being managed as a separate project.
Length: 3.8km (From Tamahere south to Cambridge Bypass)
Cost: Approximately $60M to $70M
Status: Route identified and designated. Design work will start in late 2009.
Route details:
- This project involves upgrading SH1 to full expressway standard (divided four lanes) from the southern end of the Tamahere Deviation to the northern end of the Cambridge Bypass. The Tamahere Deviation is the existing four-laned expressway south of Hamilton.
- Will connect to Cambridge Bypass with a grade-separated half diamond interchange.
- To achieve access control on the expressway, parallel service roads will be constructed on both sides of the expressway to provide access to individual properties.
- An overbridge will connect Tamahere Drive to Pickering Road at the northern end of the project.
