The NZ Transport Agency (NZTA) is inviting the public to view the preliminary roading design for the Ngaruawahia Bypass section of the State Highway 1 Waikato Expressway.
A public information day on the project is being held from noon to 7pm on Thursday 18 June at the Taupiri Settlers Hall in Te Putu Street, Taupiri. The information day will enable anyone with an interest in the Ngaruawahia Bypass to view the proposed bypass plans, ask questions, and provide the design team with feedback.
NZTA Regional Director Harry Wilson says public input is an important part of the project.
“Anyone who is interested in this project or the broader Waikato Expressway will find the information day useful, and their feedback on the proposed design will be welcomed,” Mr Wilson said.
The Waikato Expressway is the key strategic transport corridor for the Waikato region, and has been identified by the government as a Road of National Significance.
The Ngaruawahia Bypass section of the expressway runs from Taupiri to Horotiu, starting immediately south of the Mangawara Stream Bridge on SH1 in Taupiri. From there it turns left onto SH1B on Gordonton Road for approximately 2.6 km, and then heads south towards Lake Areare and Lake Road. From there it crosses the Waikato River approximately 400m south of the Horotiu Bridge, and rejoins SH1 just north of the Fonterra dairy factory at Te Rapa.
Representatives from NZTA and the engineering design team will be available at the information day to discuss the design.
