The Waterview Connection project will connect SH20 at Maioro Street in Mt Roskill to the Northwestern Motorway SH16 at Waterview by Great North Road.

The NZ Transport Agency (NZTA) has selected twin tunnels as its preferred option for this connection. Tunnels respond well to concerns raised during earlier consultation with the community about the extent of social and environmental disruption that a surface motorway would cause.

After considering public comments on the tunnel proposal in June this year, a report was commissioned to compare the proposed method for managing tunnel air emissions against international practice. The project team was asked to establish community engagement processes to engage openly on air emissions and air quality.

This report, as well as background information on the project, air quality and community health, will be presented at a community workshop on 9 September at Owairaka Primary School in Richardson Road and repeated on 11 September at the Waterview Methodist Church, corner Great North Road and Fir Street. The workshop starts at 7pm.

The government has released the report of the Waterview Connection Procurement Steering Group which investigated whether procuring the Waterview Connection section of Auckland's Western Ring Route as a Public Private Partnership could deliver value for money.
