Transit accepts tenancy tribunal finding

11 December 2003

Transit New Zealand said today its accepts the Tenancy Tribunal finding that a further 90 days notice to terminate a Transit property at 289 Cuba Street must be given tothe tenant Michael Murray.

"We are pleased to have clarity on this issue," said Wellington Transit regional manager Brian Hassell.

"The 90 days will give ample time for Mr Murray to make other arrangements.

"We require the building to be vacant to get on and replace some rotten timber, treat the adjoining timber with a preservative and treat the whole building forborer. This will involve enveloping the building with tarpaulins and pumping themethyl bromide gas into the building from the first floor," he said.

Two window frames on the first floor require extensive repair, some bracing is needed andthere are repairs to the interior plasterboard .

"We will begin this work to preserve and further protect the building once we have vacant possession," said Mr Hasell.
