The final heritage building, located at 319 Willis Street, is to be relocated today as part of the Wellington Inner City Bypass project.
It will start its relocation of 20 metres, from its current position on the corner of Willis and Abel Smith Streets, at 1:00pm to its new location on the corner of Victoria and Abel Smith Streets.
Transit New Zealand project manager Jonnette Adams said this is a significant relocation as it’s the last heritage building to be relocated as part of the project.
"Building restoration on previously relocated heritage buildings is well ahead of the programme, with all restoration work expected to be completed by late 2006," she said.
The historical component has been a very significant part of the Inner City Bypass project in order to preserve the heritage of Te Aro for future generations. Nineteen heritage buildings are being relocated and restored as part of the project.
