Final concrete floor pour - rescheduled

18 August 2006

The final concrete floor section of the trench structure being constructed as part of the Inner City Bypass project, will be poured on Monday 21 August 2006 at 7:30am.

The first floor slab was poured on 14 July 2005. This is the fifteenth and final concrete floor pour of the project.

Transit New Zealand project manager Jonnette Adams said that more than 30 trucks will be needed to deliver the 150 cubic metres of concrete that is required to complete the final 10-metre section of the floor.

“Once the floor is poured and finished, construction of the final sections of the trench walls can begin,” she said.

The 8-metre deep, ‘U-shaped’ trench structure is incorporated into a 450-metre long trench which runs from Willis Street through to the Terrace Tunnel and forms part of the new northbound route of the bypass.

“We are currently on schedule for the Bypass project with our first large milestone to be reached shortly with the northbound section due to open in late December 2006,” Ms Adams said.
