Final concrete wall pour

15 September 2006

The final concrete wall section of the trench structure, being constructed as part of the Wellington Inner City Bypass project, will be poured on Monday 18 September 2006 from 12:30pm, weather dependent.

This is another substantial milestone for the project before the northbound route opens to motorists in the New Year. The final concrete floor section of the project was poured last month.

Transit New Zealand project manager Jonnette Adams said that 4,800 cubic metres of concrete have been poured in the construction of the walled-trench structure.

“The 8-metre deep, ‘U-shaped’ trench structure is incorporated into a 450-metre-long trench running from Willis Street through to the Terrace Tunnel and forms part of the new northbound route of the bypass,” she said.

“We are currently on schedule for the project with the northbound section due to open by the end of January 2007,” Ms Adams said.
